Job Description
Scientific Officer II (Level 4) Climate position available at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work at the science/policy interface and contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Representing Ireland and the EPA at international, EU and national levels
- Managing and presenting environmental data and implementing quality control systems
- Collecting and analyzing data to inform policy issues and actions related to climate change
- Developing integrated analysis of information and data from various sources
- Contributing to the EPA's role in delivering adaptation services and supporting the Climate Ireland web portal
- Analyzing and interpreting climate change scenarios and policies
- Collaborating with national experts, agencies and departments
- Compiling greenhouse gas and air pollutant emission inventories and projections
- Supporting the delivery of related publications and reports
- Engaging with key research programmes and participating in networks and committees
- Providing scientific and environmental data, analysis and advice
- Assessing technical reports and research publications
General duties may include:
- Managing staff and fostering EPA values in teams
- Supervising, motivating and developing staff
- Managing resources, including contract tendering and contract management
- Contributing to development and delivery of office work programmes
- Preparing and presenting high-quality reports and information
- Engaging with external stakeholders
- Adhering to Health and Safety Protocols
Essential Requirements:
- Appropriate degree (NFQ Level 8) in a relevant science, engineering or mathematical discipline
- Minimum of two years work experience in a relevant area, including knowledge of climate policy and data management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven track record delivering as part of a high-performance team
