Job Description

Data center shift technician required to provide 24/7/365 operational support for critical services, emergency response, and stabilizing emergency conditions. Must have trade qualification in engineering discipline, experience with electrical and mechanical systems, and strong communication skills. Job requires flexibility, self-motivation, and ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment. Shift technician will work alongside day operations team to align critical equipment operations, facilitate break/fix and planned preventive maintenance activities, and ensure facility operations are covered and monitored. Key responsibilities include: • Maintaining point of contact for clients and management during shift • Supervising central facilities operation centre and shift during rotation • Having overview and awareness of all activities and prioritizing them in conjunction with day tech team and technical manager • Training in operation of all critical facility systems across campus • Monitoring facilities operations centre and responding to monitoring system alarms in a timely manner • Assisting day tech team with shutting down and starting up equipment as per site operational procedures • Providing detailed shift handover report to incoming shift team • Monitoring and responding to abnormal conditions in critical facility systems • Being first response for fire alerts, equipment alarms, and facility events • Being fully conversant with facility emergency response plan, EOPs, and acting as shift liaison with security during site emergencies • Using EOPs to ensure site and personnel safety after failures internal and external to the facility • Providing detailed reports for incidents on site during shift • Ensuring critical notifications are updated during shift and closed out correctly when task is completed • Reporting all facility-related tasks using CMMS and accounting for and recording all technician time • Ensuring completion of scheduled PMs, corrective maintenance, or scheduled works via CMMS in a timely manner to achieve 100% PM compliance • Ensuring all subcontractors are inducted and permitted to work within CE domain • Escorting third-party vendors to work locations and ensuring area is safe to perform work • Reviewing subcontractor statements, risk assessments, and MSDS to ensure compliance with site health and safety and operating procedures prior to issuing permit to works • Conducting vendor inspections during shift, checking/monitoring quality of work, and reviewing data/service reports to include all break/fix, PMs, and project work on site • Authoring, peer reviewing, approving, or carrying out periodic reviews of all operational documentation, such as EOPs, drills, etc. • Updating and logging all activities/time on CMMS and ensuring time/activities are recorded correctly • Ensuring daily shift handover report is sent via email detailing activities and issues that have taken place and require escalation • Conducting shift audit on all CE systems within FOC BMS, EPMS, and Fireworks, etc. at end of shift • Carrying out drills and completing toolbox talks as per KPI tracker • Reporting health and safety breaches through HAZARD process and providing updates to CEM/QHSE team • Following up and closing out open hazards assigned to engineer • Remaining on site until relieved by incoming shift technician • Providing QHSE team and CEM with report on number of permits to work issued per month • Adhering to all quality, health and safety, and environmental policies within Data Centre Domain • Ensuring all work areas are clean and tidy at all times • Wearing CBRE uniform, including appropriate PPE, as issued and presenting professional image of CBRE to clients and visitors at all times • Training to become CBRE QHSE Champion, responsibilities may include but not be limited to: • Acting as point of contact for matters relating to QHSE for campus • Contributing in effective monitoring and closure of known hazards and associated actions • Carrying out weekly/monthly site safety inspections/walks • Delivering QHSE-related briefings, toolbox talks, and approved training modules • Delivering approved new starter QHSE induction to all new members of CE team • Contributing in effective maintenance of site risk register and associated assessments, reviewing efficiency of applied controls • Participating in monthly logbook reviews and QHSE audits • Completing regular Risk Champion audits on 4-sight, providing reports for same to QHSE manager • Contributing in incident investigations and review panels • Qualifications and experience: trade qualification in engineering discipline, verifiable additional training relevant to proposed environment, understanding of LV power distribution and loading, previous data centre (or similar lab) experience desirable • Excellent understanding and experience of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centre environment, including feeders, transformers, generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS systems, battery banks, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air handling units, CRAC units, fire alarm systems, and fire suppression systems • Experience of complex automatic control equipment, including relay logic, programmable logic controllers, building management systems, and their integration with data centre infrastructure • Experience of medium voltage distribution systems and associated switchgear and protection equipment • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with client and contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on data centre systems • Computer-literate, with ability to compile and submit monthly and annual reports, and to monitor and trend operational characteristics (load, capacity, environmental conditions, etc.) • Ability to learn quickly and gain maximum benefit from extensive training and development programs aimed at ensuring that any identified knowledge or experience deficiencies are addressed in short term • Availability to work shift and provide emergency cover as required • Organized, able to effectively prioritize and deliver within dynamic and high-pressure, business-critical environment • Self-motivated, with ability to work on own initiative • Must be flexible in working patterns to support requirements dictated by rhythm of business and operational demands
