Job Description

A Postdoc position is open at the Danish Cancer Institute.About usOur research group comprises a dynamic, international, collaborative team that investigates how dysregulation of cellular homeostasis contributes to disease. In doing so, we seek in-depth molecular understanding of cellular stress-response mechanisms, combining the areas of autophagy, proteotoxicity, protein aggregation, and RNA biology. Through our work, we bridge fundamental, mechanistic discoveries in cell biology to relevant validations in mouse models, with the ultimate aim of exploiting our knowledge for new therapeutic strategies in the clinic.About the positionThe Frankel group is seeking a highly driven, curious, and ambitious Postdoc to join us at the Danish Cancer Institute. You will join an ongoing team effort in the lab aiming to understand the causes of protein misfolding and aggregation underlying neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease. The project emerges from exciting new findings and involves the molecular characterization of a protein that we have recently identified as a key player in the proteotoxic stress response. You will help to reveal the unique function, importance, and promising therapeutic potential of this protein in cancer and neurodegenerative disease. In doing so, you will also join an exciting interdisciplinary collaboration with chemists at DTU aiming to develop and test novel compounds with clinical potential against neurodegenerative disorders. The project combines the use of high-content imaging, biochemical assays, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, proteomics, and bioinformatics. Within the group, we value a cooperative and friendly atmosphere, and the successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other group members.StartApril 1st, 2024 or as soon as possible.About youWe are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc candidate with the following qualifications, competencies, and experience:A PhD degree from a relevant field, including cell biology, neuronal biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or similar.Solid and broad wet-lab skills within molecular and cellular biology are required.Experience with microscopy and image analysis is required.Experience with neuronal cell culturing and differentiation is an advantage.Bioinformatic skills/experience with handling omics datasets is an advantage.Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. The willingness to work in a collaborative environment, both independently and as part of a team.We offerWe offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and high-profile international research environment. Our laboratories are equipped with modern interior and state-of-the-art technology, located in a pleasant and beautiful area near central Copenhagen. Our institute houses a number of core facilities, including high-end microscopy, a cutting-edge animal facility, as well as histology, bioinformatics, and lipidomics services. We have close access to additional core facilities at the University of Copenhagen, including proteomics and RNA sequencing. You will join a dynamic working atmosphere, with weekly seminars, invited speakers, a young researcher association, as well as strong administrative and technical support. We offer several benefits for the personnel, such as an excellent canteen, a daily selection of free fruit, and a sports and art association. The everyday working language in the laboratory is English.Terms of salary and employmentWe offer a fully-funded two-year contract with the possibility for extension.
