Job Description

The ADON will play a key role in overseeing the daily operations of the nursing staff and ensuring the highest standard of care for our residents. This Assistant Director of Nursing position requires a strong leader with a passion for elder care, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Nursing (DON) in managing the nursing department’s day-to-day operations. Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including conducting performance evaluations and providing ongoing training and support. Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Develop and implement care plans tailored to the individual needs of residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and deliver comprehensive care. Monitor residents’ health status and ensure prompt response to any changes in condition. Participate in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of nursing staff. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with regulatory requirements. Support the DON in managing budgets, staffing schedules, and resource allocation. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and open communication. Qualifications/Experience: Current Registered Nurse with the NMBI. Minimum of 7 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership/managerial role, preferably in a long-term care or residential home setting. Strong knowledge of HIQA regulatory requirements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with residents, families, and staff. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Clinical audits: Regularly review clinical documentation, ensuring appropriate and timely assessments, care planning, and implementation of care is documented and reviewed. In addition to observing practice, the ADON also monitors standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and fosters an effective working relationship and good communication between nurses, carers, housekeeping, and catering staff.
