Job Description

SUMMARY OF ROLE: We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Health & Safety Manager for our Client, a well-known buildings materials producer, based in Dunboyne, Co. Meath. This position reports directly to the Group Health & Safety Manager and will be closely aligned to the Contracts Director. The successful candidate will proactively manage health, safety, and welfare to ensure statutory compliance and best safe working practices at current site locations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with the Health & Safety Manager and the Health & Safety Committee in the implementation of a positive health and safety culture within the business; Regularly review and update company Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures, health & safety policies, and Safety Statement for relevant locations. Communicate same to relevant personnel; Complete regular Plant inspections and audits, and report findings to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety committee, Plant & Site Supervisors; Investigate, record and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses promptly, and ensure any corrective actions are implemented without delay; Assist Health & Safety Manager and Supervisors with training needs e.g., Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheel, Plant Operators training, etc; Identify new and on-going safety related training requirements, and ensure mandatory training is reviewed and delivered on time; Liaise with Supervisors to ensure that only approved subcontractors are engaged in activities, and review subcontractor Safety Statements, Safety Compliance, and any other relevant documentation; Monitor legislative updates and ensure necessary changes are implemented; Liaise with the HSA and other statutory bodies, as necessary, and act upon recommendations for improvements; Proactively manage any breaches of health & safety policies and/or practices by employees, sub-contractors or the public, and where necessary report same through the appropriate channels; ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 3+ years experience working in a health & safety role; Third level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety is essential. Member of IOSH or equivalent; Previous experience in the Construction Industry and a manufacturing organisation is desirable; Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety legislation; Instructor in Manual Handling, Working at Height and/or Abrasive wheels advantageous; Full clean drivers license; Good people management & presentation skills; The ideal candidate will possess an environmental qualification (i.e. NEBOSH), an auditor qualification (i.e. ISO ) and instructor/trainer qualifications (i.e. First Aid). Excellent PC Skills: MS Office, Excel; SALARY: €50,000 to €55,000 per annum. Employer pension contribution and a company van provided. WORKING HOURS: Hours of work 8am to 4.30pm.
