A strategic and trusted insurance partner, Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC (BHEI) and Berkshire Hathaway International Insurance Limited (BHIIL), provide a broad range of commercial property, casualty and specialty insurance within the EEA. BHEI/BHIIL write business on both a Freedom of Services basis from Ireland and a Freedom of Establishment basis through branches in UK, Germany, France, Spain and Belgium. BHEI/BHIIL write business under several different brands, the primary one being Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. BHEI/BHIIL expect to write approximately 1 billion EUR of gross written premium in 2024. BHEI/BHIIL have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and talented Internal Auditor, who has both an ability to excel and an excellence of character, to join our European Internal Audit Team. Our culture is innovative and fast-paced, and this position will be the perfect fit for an individual who is intellectually curious, self-motivated and a collaborative team member.
This role will provide significant exposure to all our parts of our expanding European insurance business which includes Executive & Professional, Casualty, Property and Marine lines. This is a hands-on position, based in our Dublin office, and reporting directly to the Chief Audit Officer, BHEI/BHIIL. The role will consist of direct European responsibilities, currently covering UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and Belgium with continuous, planned geographical growth, as well as collaborating globally to achieve best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of the annual audit plan.
- Conduct audit assignments, including EU branch audits.
- Take part in the coordination of audit assignments and ensure good interactions with all Management, teammates, stakeholders and external auditors.
- Work with Management to resolve issues and embed good practice.
- Conduct follow-up of outstanding audit actions.
- Assist in the development of the annual audit plan.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Internal Audit or Accountancy related professional qualification and/or 5 years relevant working experience in the insurance industry.
- London market experience would be an advantage.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates.
- Self-starter who is well organized and demonstrates effective time management.
