Job Description

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to support our growth in Mallow, Co. Cork. This role involves designing, specifying, programming, simulating, and testing automation and control systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing IO lists, hardware specifications, and PLC HMI programs from FDS or Control Philosophy.
  • Setting up modem links, radio links, web-based remote SCADA access, control server setup, and maintenance.
  • Commissioning PLC systems with electrical commissioning engineers.
  • Implementing code changes on automation systems under change control.
  • Providing technical advice and support to process engineers and other disciplines on automation-related issues.
  • Operating according to SOPs for site engineering and maintenance.
  • Partnering with disciplines to deliver automation projects.
  • Generating documentation and SOPs for automation systems.
  • Supporting the tendering department on automation projects.
  • Managing automation projects within budget and corporate guidelines.

Technical requirements include:

  • Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Unitronics).
  • Field bus/communication protocols (CanBus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, CC-link, Modbus, Modbus TCP, Ethernet IP, ProfiNet).
  • SCADA packages (Wonderware Intouch, Indusoft, Citect, Broadwin, Iconics, OPC Servers).
  • M2M platforms (Leased Line, GSM, GPRS/3G, Broadband, Fibre, Radio modems, Telemetry).
  • Structured Query Language (SQL), Web Browser, VB Script, SMS functionality.

Required skills and abilities include:

  • B.Sc. degree in Engineering or equivalent, with emphasis in electrical, mechanical, electronic, automation, and/or chemical disciplines.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in industry, preferably in water, wastewater, or related industries.
  • Graduates with experience in PLCs and vision systems in operating environments.
