Job Description

Job Summary:


The role involves supporting manufacturing projects and contributing to the development and execution of the business's manufacturing strategy. The position focuses on implementing manufacturing solutions to meet customer product introduction requirements and reports directly to the Automation Engineer, Senior Automation Engineer, or higher.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in equipment processes and product introduction projects.
  • Implement the manufacturing strategy to meet both customer and company needs.
  • Participate in project teams, set priorities, and report on deliverables, time, and cost to meet business and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with customers and equipment suppliers for new business, product development, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure equipment delivery meets specifications, cost, and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for equipment, including validation, health, and safety.
  • Facilitate the installation of equipment with appropriate training and handover to operations.
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure processes meet their requirements.
  • Identify and introduce new manufacturing methods and opportunities into the company.
  • Assist in training and developing personnel on new processes or systems.
  • Ensure procedures and systems are in place for the introduction of new processes and equipment.
  • Perform equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Adhere to the company's Guiding Principles and Code of Conduct.
  • Comply with all Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements, training, and regulations.
  • Follow all local site and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have at least an NFQ Level 6 qualification in engineering or a related field. Preferred degrees include Automation, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software components of robots, PLCs, and vision control systems, preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs and Cognex Vision systems.
  • Knowledge of barcode scanning and RFID automatic identification and data capture in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of machine control systems and integrated manufacturing control systems, including MES and batch manufacturing.
  • High-level knowledge of industrial network architectures (Ethernet IP, ControlNet, Profibus) and the ability to troubleshoot network issues.
  • Expertise in manufacturing automation, machine design, development, and validation processes.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in the medical, packaging, or technological industry with a good understanding of regulatory requirements and exposure to serialization.
  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures and company policies.
  • Lean Sigma certification.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Classified as medium work due to the requirement to work on the production floor, perform equipment maintenance, and frequently move/carry tools or spare parts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to accurately document work.
  • Ability to work independently on projects while collaborating with various departments and levels of employees.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment.
