Medforce are delighted to have partnered with a well-established and highly renowned children's disability service in Co. Laois to find a Behavioural Specialist. Job Title: Behaviour Specialist Location: Covering Laois and the East Offaly network area Contract Type: 6-months initially with a view to extend, 35 hours p/week, Monday - Friday. Reporting to: CDNM, with suppervision from Psychologist The purpose of this post is to provide support for children experiencing behaviours of concern and enable families to meet the needs of the child with complex needs within the context of the family. The Beaviour Specialist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes; Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Administrators, Community Nurse, and a Dietitian. Duties to include but not limited to: Conduct functional behaviour assessments (FBA) to identify the root causes of challenging behaviours. Develop strategies to monitor and support families to manage tensions and difficulties arising from the childs disability and to seek to implement strategies to reduce the impact of the childs behaviour. Collaborate closely with other professionals, such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and educators, as part of a multidisciplinary approach. Provide training and support to parents, caregivers, and staff on managing behaviours, promoting positive behaviours, and implementing behaviour support strategies. Monitor the effectiveness of behaviour plans, making adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes for each child. Liaise with CAMHS teams, TUSLA, Preschool providers, Special & Mainstream schools, parent groups and voluntary bodies where appropriate. Maintain detailed, accurate records of assessments, interventions, and progress. Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and clinical supervision. Advocate for the needs and rights of children with disabilities, ensuring that behaviour interventions respect their dignity and promote their well-being. Stay updated on the latest research and developments in the field of behaviour management and disability services. Provide crisis management support when necessary, helping staff and families to de-escalate situations. Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of this post Essential Criteria: Bachelors or Masters degree in Psychology, Behavioural Therapy, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children with complex needs in a behaviour support role. Strong knowledge of behaviour assessment tools, intervention techniques, and support strategies. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team. Strong understanding of child development and the impact of disabilities on behaviour. Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly in relation to vulnerable children.
