Job Description

Role Introduction: Established in 1992, Applegreen is a leading convenience roadside retailer in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the US in both large-scale Motorway Service Areas and Travel Plazas, as well as smaller petrol stations. The business has grown to over €3BN in annual revenue, operating 600 Motorway Service Plazas and forecourt sites internationally and employing over 16,000 people. Applegreen is in a rapid growth phase and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking to onboard a BI Developer who will be part of a team developing data solutions, ETLs, Reports and managing the data flows between all functions of the organisation, in a very challenging, fast paced environment. This role will form part of the IT Data & Apps team and reports to the Business Applications Manager. It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to excel. The successful candidate will be a confident people person who can fit into Applegreen seamlessly and adopt a hands-on approach to their role. The core responsibilities will centre around the following areas: Design and Development: Create, enhance, and maintain solutions using Microsoft technologies (T-SQL, SSIS, Power BI, , Databricks) Develop Power BI data models, dashboards, and reports, and manage their security and deployment to the Power BI service. Design, develop, and deploy reporting solutions using SSRS and Power BI. Use Azure DevOps (with Git) and be comfortable with a CI/CD approach to deployment. Integration and Data Management: Design, develop, and deploy integration packages (SSIS/Python/PowerShell) to connect various systems (APIs/sFTP/SQL/etc). Collaborate with third-party vendors to implement interfaces for integrating with Applegreens data structures. Ad-Hoc Reporting: Prioritize and manage ad-hoc reporting (Power BI Dashboards & Paginated Reports) requests from stakeholders. Utilize SQL skills to query databases and retrieve relevant information. Development of Data-Related Instruments: As a data engineer, youll use programming skills to build, customize, and manage integration tools, databases, warehouses, and analytical systems. Data Pipeline Maintenance and Testing: During the development phase, test the reliability and performance of each part of the system or collaborate with the testing team. Data and Metadata Management: Manage data stored in structured or unstructured forms. Handle metadata (information about the data itself) when no separate metadata manager role exists. The Candidate should have the following: Qualifications, experience & skills Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience. Proven ability to work with all levels of business users to gather requirements and propose suitable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with internal teams and external partners. Required: Proven track record as a Data Engineer, BI Developer, or equivalent, with experience in MS Data Platform (SQL Server, SSIS, Power BI, , Databricks) Proficiency in writing T-SQL and creating stored procedures. Design, develop, and deploy data integration solutions (ETL and reports). Experience with Azure. Experience integrating with third-party tools and APIs. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently. High proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint). Desirable: Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and integration. Experience using Databricks, ADLS, Key vault. Familiarity with PowerShell scripts. Familiarity with SSRS, SSAS, is a plus Additional key skills & attributes: A dynamic individual who adapts well to change and can thrive in a rapidly growing organisation that continues to evolve.
