Job Description

Job Summary: The School District of Upper Dublin seeks a Bus Aide to assist in the safe and pleasant transportation of children enrolled in the School District.

The Bus Aide will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips on vehicles used by the program. This includes helping children board the bus safely, assuring that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle, and helping children safely get off the bus and into the custody of authorized individuals.

The ideal candidate will possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility. The candidate will also be required to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds, and will be expected to maintain stamina during the workday.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips on vehicles used by the program.
  • Helps children board the bus safely, including helping teachers prepare for departure.
  • Assures that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle.
  • Helps children safely get off the bus and into the custody of authorized individuals.
  • Retrieves any fallen objects during the bus ride.
  • Follows and ensures mandated child restraint device procedures.
  • Assures that no child is ever left unsupervised on a bus.
  • Engages in activity that is safe and appropriate for a moving vehicle.
  • Consistent with developmentally appropriate practices to make the trip pleasant and comfortable.
  • In the event of an accident or emergency, assures the safe evacuation of children and adults passengers and assists in assuring that all passengers are transported to the nearest hospital or to their private physician.
  • Attends all scheduled staff meetings, team meetings, and trainings.
  • Assists in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Must possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills.

  • Must be able to maintain stamina during the workday.
