Job Description

Arboretum, an award-winning garden centre and lifestyle retailer operated by the Doyle family, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join our team.

Arboretum Home and Garden Heaven, the flagship store, occupies ten acres at Leighlinbridge, County Carlow.


Arboretum Kilquade, located at the former National Garden Exhibition Centre near Kilcoole, County Wicklow, has just undergone a €4.5 million redevelopment.


Arboretum Urban Green opened in May 2023 on the first floor of iconic Dublin bookshop Chapters, located on Parnell Street, Dublin.


The business has invested heavily in e-commerce in recent years and the Arboretum experience is now available to customers anywhere in the Republic of Ireland via As a Buyer, you will play a crucial role in shaping our product selection and driving sales strategies that resonate with our customers.

You should be organised and possess a keen eye for market trends and customer preferences.

Your ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage inventory effectively will be vital to enhancing our product offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

Communicate consistently and accurately with other departments including Purchasing, Warehouse, EPOS, Finance, Marketing and Department Managers regarding all aspects of the purchasing.

Ensure supplier information and supplier company details are delivered to the Epos Team.

Apply pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities, determining additional needed sales promotion and studying buying trends.

Continuous price comparisons with other stores to ensure the company is competitive with its pricing policy.

Ensure the management of stock levels with constant communication with Purchasing manager.

Meet Purchasing Manager regularly to update on performance against targets.

Analyse reports with Purchasing Manager to challenge performance and agree actions to improve purchasing.

Produce reports regarding purchasing and stock movements.

Visit selected trade fairs to look at the option of sourcing new products and deal with existing suppliers.

Create Epos templates as assigned by purchasing manager.

The Ideal Candidate:
A minimum of two years' experience in a similar role.

Relevant experience in garden or lifestyle retail buying desirable but not essential.

Excellent communication skills to collaborate with various departments and suppliers.

Well organised, enthusiastic, positive and proactive nature with a keen attention to detail.

Strong prioritization and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work on own initiative and within a team.
