The Dublin office is the base for CL Re’s European and Asian operations as well as the Irish reinsurance entity, Canada Life Re Ireland dac (CLReI). It comprises approximately 160 reinsurance professionals, including 110 actuaries and trainee actuaries. This successful candidate for this role will lead the CLReI Risk team which provides second line oversight of all risks at CLReI, covering a wide array of risk types.  Role Overview An experienced actuary is sought to fill the Chief Risk Officer role for the next 12 to 18 months (to cover a maternity leave). You will have a dual reporting line to the CLReI Chief Executive Officer and the CL Re Chief Risk Officer. For functional purposes, you will also have a direct reporting line and responsibility to the Risk Committee for oversight matters. This role represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working with senior management at CLReI, Canada Life Group (Europe) and CL Re.  In addition, the role will offer the opportunity to present to Board-level committees and to engage with the Central Bank of Ireland as required. Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, the role could be a Pre-Approved Control Function Role (PCF14) under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity Regime.   What you will help us to achieve You will be responsible for providing independent risk oversight across CLReI with primary responsibility to the CLReI Board.  You will be a member of the CLReI Investment Committee as well as representing CLReI on various Canada Life Group European-level risk committees.    In addition, you will be the Chair and be responsible for producing materials for the CLReI Risk Management Committee as well as presenting relevant materials to the CLReI Board and Risk Committee. More specific responsibilities will include Development and implementation of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework  Producing and presenting risk oversight materials for the CLReI Risk Committee and Board of Directors, including the ORSA Report Co-ordinating and chairing the quarterly executive Risk Management Committee Engaging with the Central Bank of IreIand as required Supporting group risk function initiatives and the wider CL Re risk team as required What you will need to be successful in the role The ideal candidate will have/be:  A qualified actuary with 7+ years’ experience in a life insurance or life reinsurance environment (not essential but highly desirable) Experience of drafting and presenting reports to senior management and\or board-level committees Risk, Valuations or Pricing experience is beneficial  Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and in particular, an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts Assertive, self-motivated with the capacity to work autonomously, as part of a team and across teams including experience of planning and leading projects or initiatives Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities Competent user of MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word and MS PowerPoint   Key Competencies Problem Solving & Decision Making Leadership Risk and Control Commercial Awareness Communication & Influencing Planning & Organising Fitness & Probity Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, this role could be a ‘pre approved controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. If it is, any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank and that the appointment has been approved in writing by the Central Bank. This requires the company to complete prescribed due diligence to assess the appointee’s fitness and probity. Further details on this due diligence process are available from Human Resources.
