Job Description

Seeking a Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Manager to lead designs for AWS data centers in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects worldwide.

About the Role

As a CSA Design Manager at AWS, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
  • Develop & maintain Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for CSA elements.
  • Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design as well as collecting data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
  • Establishing capital project design budgets and contributing to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment.
  • Collaborating with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects.
  • Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs.
  • Partnering with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables.
  • Creating, reviewing, and releasing design RFPs.
  • Managing external design consultants through the design and construction process.
  • Coordinating with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Cabling design engineers.
  • Thinking outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited school.
  • 5 years working experience with 3 years of experience in design of mission critical facilities.
  • Expertise in creating, reviewing and approving architectural RFP, bids, designs and documentation.
  • Ability to develop new concepts through exploration, design, testing and deployment.
  • Define building system-level architecture, document performance and equipment requirements, communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation before, during and after construction.
  • Master degree in Architecture and/or Architecture/Engineering license with +5 years of experience in Data Center design and construction.
  • Project Management Certificate.
  • Vendor and consultant management skills.
  • Working knowledge and experience with large scale mechanical and power systems, knowledge of international building codes and construction techniques.
