Job Description

Summary: Clinical Nurse Manager sought for 40-bed nursing home in Gort, Co. Galway, to ensure delivery of highest standards of nursing and social care for residents.

Clinical Practice:

  • Ensure home policies and best clinical standards are always practiced.
  • Work with staff members to maintain standards.
  • Identify areas of concern and follow up with Director of Nursing to implement action plans.
  • Review residents with pressure sores, sustained falls, or clinically unwell, through clinical practices and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot ongoing clinical issues and escalate to Director of Nursing.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of residents and monitor ongoing assessments and modifications.

Medication Management:

  • Supervise medication administration and compliance by nursing staff.
  • Order monthly stock and compile monthly stock inventory.
  • Review medication audits with Director of Nursing and improve standards.
  • Liaise with GPs and pharmacy regarding medication reviews and audits.

Staff Supervision & Training:

  • Work alongside and be a visible presence with Staff Nurses and Care Assistants.
  • Participate in Training & Development/Performance Appraisal for Staff Nurses and Care Assistants.
  • Assess training needs with Director of Nursing and implement in-house training.

Auditing:

  • Review recent admissions to ensure appropriate assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Monitor standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Carry out medication audits, health & safety audits, risk assessments, and draw up risk management plans.
  • Audit Epicare and address any issues related to documentation.

Residents/Relatives - Person Centre:

  • Interact and support residents and families daily.
  • Be a key point of contact for relatives and visitors.
  • Ensure complaints are dealt with swiftly.

Management:

  • Assist with Person in Charge responsibilities.
  • Be responsible for daily activities, including checking and managing rosters.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety Policy.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:

  • BSc in General Nursing or equivalent.
  • Previous managerial training/experience is an advantage.
  • Registered on the NMBI live register.
  • Excellent Leadership, Organisational and Communication skills.
  • Sound decision-making ability.
  • Ability to motivate self and others and work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work well and promote a team environment.
  • Results-driven.
