Job Description

Seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) to provide expertise and specialist nursing services to patients with respiratory conditions in wards, outpatient settings, and the emergency department.

The role will involve developing and implementing care pathways to improve the transition of patients between the acute hospital and the community, aiming to reduce the patient's length of stay in the hospital.

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) will work as part of the respiratory service at University Hospital Kerry with the Consultant(s) in Respiratory Medicine and as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering coordinated evidence-based care for respiratory patients.

  • Develop and implement care pathways to improve the transition of patients between the acute hospital and the community.
  • Provide expertise and specialist nursing services to patients with respiratory conditions in wards, outpatient settings, and the emergency department.
  • Liaise between acute respiratory services and integrated respiratory services in the community to deliver effective evidenced-based care.

About the Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory)

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) will have a caseload that focuses on the following patient groups/disease processes:

  • Infectious respiratory disease
  • Pneumothorax/pleural effusion (and management of intercostal chest drains)
  • Lung cancer - in liaison with the oncology department
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Connective Tissue Disease/Vasculitis associated lung disease
  • Palliative care in respiratory disease
  • General acute respiratory illnesses
