Job Description

Seeking a Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist to join the UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre Cork team, responsible for preparing and treating patients with cancer diagnoses or other benign conditions requiring radiotherapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a caring and supportive environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, and colleagues.
  • Deliver radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan, ensuring patient safety through consistent practice of Departmental Procedures.
  • Ensure quality treatment delivery through accurate documentation of treatment records and acquisition, interpretation, and evaluation of electronic images.
  • Perform CT simulation/clinical mark ups, administer oral and IV contrast agents, and collect and document data acquired during simulation procedures.
  • Assist in the orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations and assist with treatment-related procedures.
  • Use effective communication techniques and interpersonal skills to provide explanations for treatment-related procedures and respond to patient concerns.
  • Perform and document daily and weekly QA activity for assigned equipment and participate in programs to measure and improve the quality of care within the Department.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings for coordination of patient care and complete the daily treatment schedule.
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of treatment units and CT unit, ensuring the smooth running of the daily list and adequate skill/grade mix cover of Radiation Therapists.
  • Train and supervise more junior Radiotherapy staff and ensure competencies in different areas are complete.
  • Assist the Clinical Specialist team in developing and implementing new technology and procedures while providing a leadership role to staff in managing and implementing such change.
  • Maintain familiarity with administrative tasks associated with the running of the Department, such as billing and scheduling procedures.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a qualification in Radiation Therapy recognised by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Maintain annual registration with CORU.
  • Have a minimum of 6 years full-time (or an aggregate of 6 years) post-qualification clinical experience.
