Job Description

Community Support Worker role involves assisting individuals with intellectual and mental health challenges in Kerry, Ireland, promoting community independence and quality of life.

Our work positively impacts the lives of over 10,000 people with disabilities, equipping them with the confidence, skills, and self-belief to achieve their goals.

Job Purpose

  • To assist in the delivery of individualized community support to individuals with intellectual and mental health challenges.
  • To support individuals to be valued members of their local communities.
  • To support service users to optimize their emotional, social, occupational and learning experiences through programmes offered within the community.

Responsibilities

  • To plan, develop, implement, monitor and review appropriate educational, recreational and occupational programs within the community.
  • To ensure best practice in line with up to date research regarding Quality of Life improvements.
  • To liaise with families, the multidisciplinary team and key community based personnel in the pursuit of accessible community activities for service users.
  • To ensure all interaction with service users is approached with dignity, respect, equality and incorporates choice.

Requirements

  • QQI level 5 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience in the area of supporting individuals with intellectual, physical and mental health challenges.
  • Experience in supporting community independence.
  • Knowledge and experience of local community resources is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements

  • Full Clean Driving Licence and access to a car for business purposes is required.
  • To promote and be actively involved in teamwork at all times.
  • To liaise with families, the multidisciplinary team and other personnel as directed by the Community Services Manager.
  • To maintain a basic knowledge of first aid/personal care and to implement good hygiene practices.

About the Role

This role is a fixed term contract for 6 months, working 39 hours per week. The successful candidate will be based in Kerry, Ireland, and will be responsible for supporting individuals with intellectual and mental health challenges in the community.
