Job Description for Component Engineer/Supplier Manufacturing Engineer
Drive improvement and corrective actions in the quality of components sourced from outside suppliers, provide technical support in the selection of suppliers, and support the development of acceptance criteria for materials.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish incoming inspection and test procedures and provide technical support to manufacturing to resolve material or supplier-related issues.
  • Develop new supply sources with the purchasing team and qualify components to specified parameters.
  • Assess potential new suppliers for technical and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide technical support for the introduction of components from a new supplier.
  • Manage projects to reduce material cost or reduce material supply risks.
  • Work with Receiving Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
  • Lead on Process Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
  • Review material specification releases and revisions as required.
  • Investigate field failures related to supplier materials.
  • Develop corrective action plans where necessary.
  • Manage/participate in teams to conduct business risk assessments and develop action plans to reduce or eliminate risks.

Requirements

  • NQF level 7 in a relevant discipline and +2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • General understanding of business unit/group function.
  • Will perform this job in a quality system environment.
  • Cognitive skills: work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Influence/Leadership: cultivate a wide range of internal networks and begin to develop an extensive external network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks.
  • Planning/Organisation: plans, organises, and prioritises own daily work routine to meet established schedule.
  • Decision Making/Impact: exercises authority and judgment within defined limits to determine appropriate action.
