Job Description

Seeking a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist to provide high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems in the Cork/Kerry area.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients in your clinical charge, working closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care. You will also have a key role in teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, and other allied health professionals.

The Psychiatry of Later Life Team provides specialist mental health services to people over sixty-five who are coming to the service for the first time. You will work with a diverse patient population, enhancing your clinical skills and contributing to the development of the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Working closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care
  • Teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, and other allied health professionals
  • Contributing to the development of the Psychiatry of Later Life Team

Essential criteria include:

  • Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration
  • 5 - 10 years' relevant experience post-graduation
  • Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain: Old Age Psychiatry
