Job Description

Seeking a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist to provide high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems in the Cork/Kerry area.

As a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients in your clinical charge, with a focus on community-oriented care. The duration of the contract is 12-24 months with a view to going permanent.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems, including those with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.
  • Work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Cork/Kerry area.
  • As a leader, you will have a key role in teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, and other allied health professionals as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of mental health services for older people in the Cork/Kerry area, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

  • Basic Salary scale between €217,325- €261,051 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract.

Requirements

  • Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration.
  • 5-10 years' relevant experience post-graduation.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain: Old Age Psychiatry.
