Job Description

Organisation Description: The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Irelands 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners. Summary of the Role: The successful individuals will support the management and analysis of marine data to enable evidence-based decision-making and reporting in Ireland. These roles involve working closely with the wider IS&D team and cross-service teams to manage multidisciplinary marine environmental data. Key responsibilities include facilitating relevant data analysis, publication, and access for key stakeholders, utilizing innovative data visualisation and access services. Educational and Professional Requirements: A degree or equivalent higher qualification in IT / Computer Science/Digital, or other numerical discipline. Experience in an IT/digital or data role. Experience in the management, processing and analysis data, ideally for scientific or environmental datasets. Database skills with practical experience of the SQL query language for Microsoft SQL Server or similar enterprise Database Management System. Knowledge of scripting languages (such as Python, JavaScript, etc). Some experience in the definition of technical requirements / Business Analysis. Some experience of documenting technical specifications and workflows / processes. The ability to be well organised and work to deadlines identifying priorities and managing time effectively. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both in writing and verbally with technical and scientific and non-technical groups. The ability to work unsupervised and to work well with others.
