Job Description

Would you like to work part time? We have an exciting high earning opportunity for a Dental Hygienist to join our Dundrum practice. Busy books with established patient lists on offer. Attractive package with a very competitive hourly rate due to exciting company growth. Available hours are Tuesday pm, Wednesday 2.30pm - 7pm, and Friday pm.

Summary of Role

Dental Hygienists are registered Dental Healthcare Professionals (DHPs) who help patients maintain their oral health by preventing and treating gum disease and promoting good oral health behaviour. The Hygienist will work in close partnership with the DCI dental team, take instruction from the dentist and practice manager, and take ownership and responsibility for clinical policies and procedures in the practice as set out by Dental Care Ireland and other regulatory bodies, including the Dental Council of Ireland.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Confirm medical and dental histories and maintain documentation and patient charts.
  2. Record the hard and soft tissue and periodontal status.
  3. Clean and polish teeth.
  4. Provide supra and subgingival scaling including comprehensive root surface debridement and apply medicaments when indicated.
  5. Apply appropriate prophylactic materials including solutions, gels, and sealants to the teeth and/or gums.
  6. Give advice on oral health, including the planning and implementation of oral health promotion programs, smoking cessation, and diet analysis in relation to the prevention of dental caries and personalized plaque control programs.
  7. Re-fit crowns with temporary cement and place temporary dressings when crowns or fillings become dislodged.
  8. Take and process dental radiographs to the prescription of a dentist (having completed a Dental Council approved course in dental radiography).
  9. Administer local infiltration and block anesthesia to patients to the prescription of a dentist (having completed a Dental Council approved course in local infiltration and block anesthesia).
  10. Keep clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile according to the practice's health and safety policy and the Code of Practice relating to infection control as set out by the Dental Council of Ireland.
  11. Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained for the smooth running of your clinic, and inform appointed staff member when stock levels diminish.
  12. Always maintain patient confidentiality.
  13. Ensure that any incident relating to patient safety is notified to the Practice Manager and is recorded.
  14. Work with the practice manager in handling and resolving patient complaints, if they arise, in line with company guidelines.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Recognised dental hygienist qualification.
  • Irish Dental Council Registration.
  • Indemnity Insurance.
  • Experience would be an advantage for this particular location.
  • Living in Ireland as we would like to fill this role as soon as possible.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulation in this profession.
  • HEP B certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
