Job Description

The Deputy Shift Team Lead role supports the leading of an off-site Professional Scientific Services (PSS) team to ensure high quality and productivity standards, high morale and retention, and satisfied client requirements through effective leadership and quality operational management.



  • Coordinate and lead the PSS team for maximum efficiency in productivity, quality, documentation, work schedules, safety, and housekeeping.

  • Perform routine and non-routine analysis as requested by the Group Leader or customer representative.

  • Prepare and approve results for tests in which you have received training and are deemed competent.

  • Support team development, coaching, motivation, and morale through teambuilding and use of reward and recognition systems.

  • Manage information sharing and actions, reviewing and approving documentation and technical data in a timely manner.

  • Review and improve commercial work practices, identifying areas for improvement and liaising with the PSS shift Lead and client.

  • Ensure work is scheduled and cross training takes place to achieve service levels agreed with the client.

  • Support Shift Lead in carrying out performance appraisals and continuous feedback to team members.

  • Write SOPs, protocols, and trending reports as required.

  • Initiate and investigate non-compliance or out of trend/specification situations in the laboratory.

The role requires a degree or diploma in Microbiology or a related discipline, at least 2 years' experience in a pharmaceutical industry GMP laboratory, and strong familiarity with GMP and Microbiology.
