Job Description

We are the people behind Ireland's electricity grid, operating the power system with variable asynchronous renewable generation and transforming it for future generations. Our critical purpose is to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change and net zero ambitions. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Innovation and Planning to join the Chief Transformation & Technology Office. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Transformation & Technology Officer and be responsible for visioning and developing an implementation plan to transform the power system to deliver a zero net carbon ambition, capturing Ireland's natural resources while facilitating and supporting Ireland's competitiveness in a sustainable manner. The role will involve leading the programme of visioning the power system to achieve Government's Ambition of 2030 and the net zero carbon by 2050, establishing centres for excellence, developing the future thought leaders for evolving the operation of the power system, and establishing robust relationships with Third Level Institutions. The successful candidate will also be responsible for sourcing, developing, and maintaining business experts to deliver the strategic programme, ensuring the provision of projects concepts and Business Case for the transformation of the market and the future operation of the transmission system. Key responsibilities will include quality assurance on products and projects delivery, developing and implementing the post Phase 2 Offshore Transmission system blueprint, and leading the collaboration with neighbouring TSOs. The Director of Innovation & Planning will have a strong background in business administration, management, or a related field, with experience of creating, leading, and influencing high performing teams, and exceptional decision-making skills. They will also be a strong leader in managing budgeting, funding requirements, and financial management, with excellent communication and negotiation skills to engage with diverse stakeholders. The role will involve working closely with the North Seas Energy Cooperation, ENTSO-E, and the Department of Energy, Climate Action and the Environment. The successful candidate will be a team player who can collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, with a strong analytical skill to align programs with organizational goals and government priorities. They will have proficiency in managing organizational change and transformation, and experience working in government, public sector, or regulated industries is advantageous. The Director of Innovation & Planning will report directly to the Chief Transformation & Technology Officer and will be a member of Eir Grid's extended leadership team.
