About the Role: This role is based in the Forward Trading Team within PrepayPower's finance department. We are a growing dynamic team of experienced energy market professionals who are responsible for buying and hedging PrepayPower's wholesale gas and electricity supplies for our customers in Ireland, across a range of time horizons. The role specifically sits on the Demand side of the team which is responsible for forecasting our customer's electricity and gas demand on a daily, weekly, and longer-term basis as well as analysing customer's consumption data. We further support the wider business with customer insights and wholesale regulatory analysis. The successful candidate will work with the wider forward trading team under the supervision of the demand forecasting manager and head of trading and will be primarily responsible for organising and maintaining the structure of demand data in our database, writing database queries and reports, analysing customer consumption data, and building tools to track key demand metrics. Desired Industry Experience: Knowledge of data analysis methods and proficiency in SQL and other programming languages such as Python is essential; the ideal candidate must have experience in creating fast and efficient database queries and reports in SQL. Experience in the Energy sector such as demand forecasting, Grid or Market modelling would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can clearly explain complex information to key stakeholders and will also have experience guiding junior team members. Main Responsibilities: Manage large-scale data projects from start to finish and report results to demand forecasting manager, e.g. agree technical requirements and deliverables for the project with the manager, map out the timeline, delegate work to junior team members, guide the project to completion, and be responsible for the results being delivered to the manager within the timeline. Assist the demand forecasting manager in identifying, building, and maintaining required data structures which will help enable efficiencies through automation of work. Write SQL stored procedures to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis which keep track of customer usage insights, and or energy market metrics, and build reports to communicate this information to the rest of the team. Be responsible for demand data integrity and be able to immediately identify missing data. Identify ways in which existing tools can be automated or optimised. Build new Excel tools, dashboards, and Power BI reports as required by the forward trading team. Assist the manager with short-term and long-term demand forecasting. Be part of the trading rota which involves buying electricity and gas from the Day-Ahead markets. Guide junior analysts through group projects. The role will require a limited amount of out-of-hours support. Candidate Skills and Experience Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Sciences, or other Quantitative field. Masters or PhD highly desirable 4+ years of professional or academic experience in the Energy sector, data engineering, or other quantitative field. Strong data handling and programming skills are essential, particularly in SQL; additional experience in database management, python, and Excel would be preferred. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can break down complex information and explain it to senior stakeholders. Excellent problem-solving / creativity skills with an ability to make sense of large amounts of data, from both the top-down and bottom-up. Knowledge of Wholesale electricity markets and an understanding of the ISEM would be an advantage. Should continually challenge own and others' work. Strong attention to detail and the candidate should be able to deliver a high quality of information to a varied audience. Ability to communicate in a structured, clear, and concise manner especially with management. The candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to influence and gain buy-in from peers and management. Ability to follow, map and improve processes. Strong team worker with ability to work on own as well under direction from management. Ability to adapt to varying goals and changes in priority . Ability to work with and mentor junior members of the team.
