Job Summary:
The Marine Institute seeks a highly skilled professional to work on a project addressing marine litter issues, utilizing ocean modelling expertise and collaboration with international partners.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will join the Ocean Modelling team at the Marine Institute, working on the FreeLitterAT project to prevent and reduce macro and micro litter in Atlantic coastal communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ocean modelling tasks and collaborate with international partners on the FreeLitterAT project.
- Utilize numerical modelling skills, including setting up and running ocean Lagrangian particle tracking models.
- Work with NetCDF file format and handle large volumes of observational and model oceanographic data.
- Develop and maintain effective numerical and literacy skills, including report writing and communication with technical and non-technical groups.
Requirements:
- PhD in Physical or Biological Oceanography, Civil Engineering, numerical modelling or related discipline.
- Experience in numerical modelling, scripting languages (e.g. Matlab, Python), and NetCDF file format.
- Excellent numerical and literacy skills, including report writing and communication.
- Ability to work unsupervised and collaboratively with others.
