Field Service Engineer role involves performing routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on distribution tractors and other vehicles nationwide.
Job Description:
- Perform routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on distribution tractors and other vehicles on customer premises.
- Conduct visual or operational checks to locate worn, dirty, or maladjusted parts.
- Carry out technical inspections or use technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to find and repair inoperable or defective machine parts, components, or systems.
- Undertake thorough inspections of accident-damaged machines and produce accurate reports.
Responsibilities:
- Determine repair and maintenance techniques, select equipment, and implement safety measures.
- Obtain customer agreement that work has been completed as required and obtain signature.
- Ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and safe system of work procedures.
- Work additional hours when required, including out-of-hours call-outs and unsociable hours.
- Work away from home on customer vehicles, either with or without workshop facilities.
Critical Skills:

- Ability to work to tight deadlines and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Knowledge of current road traffic law and ability to ensure high standards of preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships.
- Ability to manage own workload independently and prioritize tasks.
- Self-motivation and ability to challenge the status quo and research problem-solving solutions.
Critical Knowledge:
- Knowledge of latest diagnostic systems.
- Substantial experience in auto-electrician fault diagnosis and resultant repairs, including electronic diagnostic equipment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- City and Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems – Maintenance and Repair Qualification or equivalent.
- Valid driving license.
