Job Description

Financial Accountant sought for the Finance & IT Department of the Representative Church Body, a major trustee body for the Church of Ireland, to work on financial applications and develop super user skills.

The Representative Church Body is the major trustee body for the Church of Ireland, holding a substantial portfolio of funds and properties in trust on behalf of the Church of Ireland throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The Finance & IT Department encompasses a broad range of activities, including financial reporting and accounts, investment accounting, treasury management, pension administration, and payroll services to the wider Church, and information technology services.

The core management information systems include Agresso Milestone 7.10 and Resource Link, which support financial reporting and accounting, and pension administration and payroll management, respectively.

The Finance & IT department supports a number of RCB committees, including the Audit & Risk Committee, Allocations (Budgeting & Finance) Committee, Stipend Committee, Investment Committee, and the Executive (Board) Committee.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts
  • Responding to financial inquiries
  • Supporting with year-end audits and close out
  • Preparation of monthly & quarterly financial reporting
  • Monthly & quarterly financial controls & reconciliations
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly forecasts
  • Investment administration and fund accounting
  • Supporting with month end investment valuations
  • Providing cover for accounts payable
  • Preparing reports for committees and other departments
  • Supporting with the completion of internal audit reports
  • Assisting with audit compliance and internal control responsibilities
  • Supporting systems and upgrade projects
  • Undertaking special work assignments and research
  • Ad-hoc duties to support the Head of Finance and the wider entire Finance team

Candidate Profile:

  • A primary degree & / or equivalent professional qualification, preferably in a business-related discipline
  • An accountancy qualification gained from a recognised professional accountants association (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA)
  • One to two years post qualification experience would be desirable

Requirements:

  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices
  • Strong IT skills including proficient use of MS Office 365
  • Strong application skills (Financial/Accounting systems, Payroll)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong collaboration & organisation skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present findings and recommendations
  • An understanding of Charities SORP would be desirable
  • A strong interest in working in the not-for-profit sector
  • The right to work in the Republic of Ireland
