Full professorships in Digital Design at the IT University of CopenhagenThe IT University of Copenhagen, Department of Digital Design invites highly motivated individuals to apply for several Full Professor positions starting in December 2024 or soon thereafter.We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University’s vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity, and who want to contribute to Digital Design’s research strategy.The candidateWe look to hire candidates holding a PhD in areas related to or relevant for research and teaching in Design Research, Human Centred Data Science and Public Digitalisation & Digital Welfare.The candidate must conduct education and research in at least one of the following areas:Design Research: designing digital technologies for present and future contexts through experimentation and interventions from a care-oriented perspective; interdisciplinary explorations of the sociopolitical, ethical and cultural outcomes of design prototypes; critically exploring participatory design of digital technologies and services.AI-based Design: designing new forms of AI-based user experience as well as understanding how people interact with AI/ML products.Human Centred Data Science: focusing on the human factors in the conception, use, and understanding of data; understanding and exploring human practices enabled by technology in the intersection of data science, social science, HCI, and CSCW; combining quantitative and qualitative methods, and working with computational methods such as statistics, machine learning, network analysis together with qualitative methods such as ethnography, interviews, and observations.Public Sector Digitalization and Digital Welfare: exploring the idea of digital welfare and its impact in modern societies; enhancing comprehension of digital societies and participation through active involvement in digital social policy: studying digital inclusion, citizenship and lifestyles that empower individuals and communities through themes such as digital marginalization, ageing, care, and loneliness.The ideal applicant takes a combined theoretical and applied approach. Experience with interdisciplinary work is expected.Job descriptionThe professors are expected to contribute to research and education, including PhD supervision, to develop strategy, and mentor junior faculty and postdocs in the applied-for area. Moreover, the professors are expected to attract external research funding and to build external collaboration in joint research projects also with partners outside of academia.In addition, candidates for the position should be able to read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish).Qualification requirementsThe responsibilities of the professors will include:Develop education and teaching at the IT University of CopenhagenTake responsibility of the academic leadership in the applied-for areaCritically and constructively influence the way Digital Design is applied in societyTake responsibility of the academic leadership towards collaboration with external partnersCreate a pipeline of external research fundingDevelop relations to external partners, to business, government, and society at largeThe application should document the applicant’s background and experiences with respect to the responsibilities listed above.The application should also state any additional qualities that the candidate may possess, such as excellent communication skills, leadership skills in diverse environments, and the like.The applicant is expected to have proven experience in delivering excellent results regarding:ResearchPhD supervisionEducation and curriculum developmentOutreach outside academia, e.g. to industry, other organizations, or the publicResearch managementAttracting external fundingThe applicant must document results in these aspects. Documentation must confirm that the applicant is both internationally recognized and has had an impact outside their peer community, for instance in collaborations with industry or other organizations outside academia.ApplicationThe application and all other documents ought to be in English and must include:A motivated application (cover letter), including a detailed description of your qualifications and brief statements of research and teaching plans that relates to the criteria in ITU’s Competency Development Profile (https://en.itu.dk/About-ITU/Vacancies/Faculty-Competence-profiles).A full CV, including name, address, phone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background.Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.).A short plan outlining and arguing for the intended research and teaching initiatives and engagements (2-3 A4 pages).A memorandum stating your most important scientific work relevant to the position and your contribution to such work (2-3 A4 pages).Copies of max. 5-10 different publications or other research contributions at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues that are relevant for the applicant’s field (the publications should be numbered).Information indicating experience and results in Ph.D. supervision, research management, fundraising, academic community efforts, and research cooperation.Documentation of pedagogical training and experience along with a teaching record relevant for the position. The teaching record should at least for each course include your official responsibility, the size of the course, the academic level, and the number of students. Include max. 5 course descriptions to document the experience.A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.Recognizing the diversity of traditions, methods and delivery format in the range of fields included in this call, the publications or other documented research contributions should be submitted in the format relevant for the applicant’s field.
