Job Description
Gas and Power Trader Role Summary: Execute commercial gas and power operations, dispatch generation portfolio, and maximise economic benefit in the UK markets.
You will be joining a leading company in energy generation, with a trading business within Generation and Wholesale Markets. The trading group is responsible for developing and implementing innovative trading, settlement and risk management processes.
In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for executing commercial gas and power operations on behalf of the Generation and Wholesale Market Business portfolio across the UK markets. Your work will directly impact success, and you'll gain a deep understanding of the main power and energy markets where business trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dispatching our generation portfolio in the optimal manner
- Maximising the economic benefit from trading power and gas positions
- Maximising revenue through the Balancing Mechanism by strategic profiling of the asset portfolio
- Re-optimising traded positions whilst expertly managing our exposure to volatile and punitive system imbalance charges
- Making timely commercial decisions based on available real-time information and informed judgement
- Assisting in the preparedness and readiness activities for the future state and activities of the group
- Managing interactions with stations, other market participants and other functions
Requirements:
- Relevant experience in the gas and power trade
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the economic dispatch of power stations and drivers of the power and gas markets
- Good level of numerical, IT, analytical and communications skills
- Experience in power and gas trading and operations
- Ability to quickly translate complex analysis and accurate interpretation of electricity market and system data
- Experience in the use of MS Office tools such as MS Excel and Word
