Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Clinical Duties: Patient Assessment: Conduct initial patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and vital signs monitoring. Clinical Procedures: Perform a variety of clinical procedures such as wound care, vaccinations, phlebotomy, ECGs, and blood pressure monitoring. Chronic Disease Management: Assist in the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and hypertension through regular monitoring and follow-up care. Health Screenings: Conduct health screenings and preventive health checks, including cervical smears, breast checks, and health promotion activities. Medication Administration: Administer medications and injections as prescribed by the GP. Emergency Care: Provide first aid and emergency care in acute situations. Administrative Duties: Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards. Appointment Coordination: Assist with the scheduling of patient appointments and management of the appointment calendar. Inventory Management: Monitor and manage medical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper functioning. Patient Education and Support: Health Education: Provide education and advice to patients on managing their health conditions, medication adherence, lifestyle changes, and preventive measures. Support Services: Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing information about available services. Collaboration and Coordination: Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with GPs, other nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff to deliver comprehensive patient care. Referrals: Coordinate patient referrals to specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers as needed. Community Outreach: Participate in community health initiatives and outreach programs to promote public health and well-being. Skills and Qualifications: Education: Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). Experience: Previous experience in a general practice or primary care setting is preferred. Clinical Skills: Proficiency in clinical procedures, patient assessments, and chronic disease management. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Interpersonal Skills: Empathy, compassion, and the ability to build rapport with patients and their families. Technical Skills: Competency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer applications. Working Conditions: Environment: Work is typically performed in a general practice or primary care clinic. Hours: May require working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on the practice's hours of operation.
