Global Head of Convenience Level 3 Location - TBC: Dublin, London, New York Line manager Grainne Wafer, Global Director Beer, Vodka, Liqueurs and Convenience The Ready to Drink (RTD/RTS)/Convenience space has significant potential to help Diageo achieve its growth ambition of increased market share. It is a category bigger than all other spirits categories bar vodka, forecast to overtake this also. Diageo is looking to implement a progressive relook at our approach to winning in this category across all aspects of the business model and portfolio. To unlock this potential, we need to rapidly define and implement a winning strategy, balancing the need for speed and experimentation, with the right long term strategic interventions. This role is responsible for defining the Diageo convenience expansion strategy and roadmap and drive the delivery of this, working with existing and new markets and a broad cross functional team (strategy/finance/supply/innovation) to solve the greatest challenges and build the convenience capability needed to enable Diageo to improve the value of the convenience opportunity. Initially you will orchestrate a cross market, cross functional squad to shape the approach, identifying and co-ordinating the immediate interventions across a number of key brands/categories and markets. In the longer term, the plan will be to scale Convenience to deliver Convenience for more brands and into more markets - and do so in a way that improves value and efficiency across Diageo. The role is also accountable for codifying and co-ordinating standard process from market defining the optimum marketing model to win across mental and physical availability as well as working closely with GBTs and the innovation function to develop new platforms that can scale to multi market as well as supporting markets to develop their own 'local jewels Structural complexity This will require an ability to initially mobilise a cross skilled team to scope the opportunity in partnership with key markets, strategy, supply, innovation and global brand teams. This squad will form a series of recommendations which will define the future way of working and convenience structure. To win in convenience will require new capability as it's a different proposition to the rest of our portfolio due to operational (retail landscape and cold space), supply (supply location choices, manufacturing, 3rd party management) and RTM and distribution differences. Convenience takes us deeper into the FMCG space with the ability to fast follow and scale - and have the agility that comes with that to be successful, which requires different operating models. Role accountabilities Define the RTS opportunity for Diageo Define the one Diageo RTD strategy - aligning portfolio priorities for RTD, establishing the occasion spaces, brands/markets to be prioritised. Mobilise and orchestrate a skills based squad to own the development of the strategy and map out key cross functional interdependencies and enablers. Align the executive team to the implications of this strategy and ensure the enablers are in place in order to deliver Drive delivery of roadmap Define operating and commercialisation models to enable the key selected markets to rapidly set up and scale up RTD Partner with new/existing markets to address the biggest issues. Work with supply to define the accurate footprint to support implementation of the plan. Build RTD capability so it becomes embedded in our organisation. Define the optimum marketing model to win share and create a Diageo leadership position in the category across consumer and commercial growth levers. Work with in the innovation and R&D teams to ensure that we have the right pipeline of local and global offerings. Codify and embed multi market takeaways Qualifications and Experience Required Significant consumer goods experience - 10+ years of experience in commercial, transformation, marketing, or innovation leadership roles in consumer goods industry. Strong portfolio development/category experience will be required. Significant transformation experience - proven ability to define and drive change at pace in a complex matrix environment. FMCG mindset - the ability to fast follow and scale, need to be highly agile with knowledge of the operational retail landscape. Commercial and Business Acumen - Significant P&L management and ability to apply commercial judgement while considering the end-to-end business. Ability to reframe and turn possibilities into commercial reality - Ability to paint a clear vision which inspires people to follow, supported by strong insights and good judgement to unlock growth opportunities. Strategic and insights driven leadership coupled with convenience experience - Experience in the Convenience category, informed by emerging consumer trends, enabling Diageo to take the 'lead and shape' position in these segments as well as ability to articulate the complexities associated with developing RTD propositions. Collaborative leadership - Partner and collaborate with key stakeholders (Global Brand Directors, Innovation and R&D, Supply, Global Strategy, Distil Ventures, Priority Market GMs), to deliver on the Diageo ambition for this category.
