Job Description

Senior Grid Strategy Manager sought to lead power growth strategy for AWS's EMEA data centers, leveraging technical expertise to analyze and develop business, supply chain, and operational strategies.

The AWS Infrastructure Energy Team is looking for a Senior Grid Strategy Manager to own setting the strategic direction regarding where to locate, how to interconnect, and how to operate data centers across power grids. The successful candidate will cultivate business and technical relationships with various stakeholders, including grid and electricity utilities, supply chain partners, regulators, and policymakers to ensure that power and grid infrastructure can be delivered in a timely and economic manner to support AWS's EMEA infrastructure expansion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with internal engineering, real estate, and planning teams to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive power growth strategy for AWS's EMEA data centers for new and existing regions.
  • Identifying risks in delivery and operation of power grids and collaborating with partner teams to find appropriate mitigations.
  • Identifying opportunities for AWS to stimulate the transition to cleaner power grids in delivering growth to support customers across EMEA.
  • Identifying and developing cost-saving projects and initiatives related to grid and network infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with electricity utilities and other external stakeholders to develop strategies that support AWS's expansion in EMEA.
  • Developing and executing strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, HV substations, energy storage, etc.) to accelerate delivery of power capacity and optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Working with AWS's Public Policy team to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering or other relevant technical field or equivalent professional or technical qualification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or commensurate experience managing multiple simultaneous international business projects.
  • 10-15+ years track record working in the electric utility/energy industry in an engineering, project, or technical role including design, development, and delivery of HV/MV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of developing strategies that inform and influence business direction, growth, and leadership decisions at an organizational level.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience advising on delivery of electricity infrastructure, grid application, and connections process and the broader policy and regulatory context of electricity grids, understanding of grid codes and relevant regulatory models, health & safety.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in relevant discipline (MBA/MS).
  • Experience designing HV/MV electric infrastructure.
  • Experience and understanding of the permitting process and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
  • Ability to converse in Spanish, German, French, Swedish, or Italian is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated 5+ years of analytical skillset to analyze the implications of electrical grid infrastructure systems and associated regulations on business goals and deliverables.
