Job Description

Reporting to: Head of Employee Relations Background ESB is a large and complex business operating across the electricity market, from generation through transmission and distribution, to supply of customers. ESB employs approximately 9,500 people across the island of Ireland and in GB. With a significant proportion of the workforce represented by trade unions, the ESB Industrial Council and Group of Unions are important parts of the ER & IR mechanisms at ESB, as well as a commitment to ensuring the voice of the employee is heard and reflected in the design of the employee experience. A recent three year pay deal has been agreed providing the framework for the next stage of ESB's journey. The Group Employee RelationsManager is responsible for the development and implementation of ESB's Employee Relations (ER) strategies in the context of the broader internal and external environment and leads all cross company Collective Bargaining processes.A key element of the role is to ensure that collective agreements, procedures and processes are managed effectively and efficiently ensuring key stakeholder relationships are maintained. Key Responsibilities Develop a Centre of Excellence of Employee Relations expertise for ESB, with a progressive employee relations strategy and plan, focusing on developing a positive employee relations climate during complex organisational change delivering successful outcomes in a collaborative manner. Lead the relationship and all collective bargaining with unions with a view to securing business performance, necessary change, employee engagement and legal compliance. Develop a framework ensuring all collective agreements are implemented consistently across ESB and that the integrity of ESB's market facing reward model is embedded and maintained in a consistent manner in all Directorates. Contribute and support the development a framework for employee engagement that ensures all employee's have an opportunity to have their voice heard. Deliver a single approach and structure to Industrial Relations issues in collaboration with the HRBPs in all directorates through providing leadership, guidance,support,and advice in the areas of employee relations and employment policy. Advise and input to all significant Business Unit collective bargaining processes toensure interventionsand solutions to meet business objectives are consistent with overall ER strategy. Interacting with the external ER Agencies such as IBEC, LRC, ICTU etc. and assessing the implications for ESB of Industrial Relations developments in Ireland. Advise HR on employee relations-related topics, including changes to policy and laws, to ensure all areas of the business reflect latest thinking. Embed the Grievance and Disciplinary process on a consistent basis in all Directorates of ESB and provide active support for all case management (includingGrievance & Disciplinary, Bullying & Harassment, etc.) with the provision of guidance and expertise. Increase the awareness, understanding and application of employment, law,policiesand practices to ensure consistency and management of risk across the People and Business Line functions. Experience, ideal skills and qualifications. Essential A demonstrated track record in influencing and negotiating at a national/organizational level, within an ER/IR context, delivering successful and sustained outcomes. Broad knowledge of the regulatory framework within which the ESB/ ESB Networks operates. Proven leadership capability aligned with ESB core values and ability to operate at senior management level. The successful candidate must be inclusive, with an open mindset and a demonstrated desire to understand how others view the world. The ability to comprehend complex business issues involving processes, people, systems & finance. Effective team player possessing drive, agility, and resilience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, people and customer skills. High level of commercial awareness. Desirable A relevant 3rd level qualification or equivalent work experience demonstrating continuous professional development. Membership of CIPD. Location The Group Employee Relations Manager role is based at ESB Head Office, 27 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin. Occasional travel to ESB sites will be a feature of this role.
