Head of Casualty and SMEJob DescriptionReporting to the Head of Business Lines Underwriting, the Head of Casualty & SME will have full responsibility to manage and drive the overall success of our Casualty & SME portfolio’s by using their knowledge and expertise.Your RoleDevelop and implement business plans and pricing strategies, aligned with Global, Business Division, Business Unit and Regional strategiesProvide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Sales and Distribution, and Operations Teams in support of the achievement of business plansHandle a range of queries and requests for empowerment within agreed authority limitsImplement best practice portfolio management tools and techniquesContinually monitor claims and micro/macro economic trends to ensure correct strategies and lessons learned are incorporated within the line of business strategiesLead the continuing development of technical underwriting standards, controls, practices and proceduresIdentify and prioritise opportunities for development of new or enhanced propositions based on technical, customer and distributor insightsLead the design and delivery of the Risk Coverage components of key propositionsProvide guidance to others and proactively support the development of self and othersProvide regular and timely management reports with recommendationsYour ResponsibilitiesPortfolio management responsibility for the Casualty & SME portfolio’s including holding profit and loss responsibilityDevelops, leads and implements the Casualty business strategy and drives profitable growthSupports in delivery of the SME business strategy in conjunction with the Head of SMEWorking with the Business Lines Transformation Project Team and supporting the Head of SME, on the design and implementation of our new technology platformDevelopment of products, propositions and technical skills to support themWorks closely with Sales & Distribution, Market Facing Underwriters and Claims and Actuarial to enable the achievement of business plansDemonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise in products and industry and lead projects to develop technical standards, controls and practices for areas of expertiseDrive initiatives and action plansActive engagement with customers, business partners and active engagement and influence of trade and industry groups, ensuring a strong external leadership profile for the individual and ZurichWorking under limited direction, executes The Zurich Way of UnderwritingComply with Zurich Risk Policy, Global Underwriting Policies as well as local regulatory and industry requirementsYour Skills and ExperienceIdeally the candidate will have at least 10 years at a senior management level working across a Casualty or SME portfolioDemonstrate advanced technical knowledge and skills reflective of a seasoned practitioner who has progressed within underwriting positions of increasing responsibilityHas a high level of UW authority and involved in trade and industry bodies for area of specialismExcellent knowledge of UW concepts and principles and UW metricsDemonstrate the tools and techniques for portfolio managementStrong analytical skills and decision-making abilityAbility to work to strict deadlines and ambitious targetsExcellent communication, negotiation and relationship building skillsPeople management and key stakeholder management skills with clear ability to influenceHas built strong key relationships with external brokers and customersStrong commercial acumen and can “trade” within what is a dynamic and fast-moving external marketplaceAdditional InformationWork location is Ireland. Position can be Dublin or Wexford based but travel to the specific office will be required a minimum of 2 days a week.
