Job Description

Lead a team of academics and professionals in the Department of Pop, Jazz, Trad, Voice & Theatre Studies at MTU Cork School of Music, driving innovation and excellence in music and drama education.

MTU Cork School of Music is Ireland's oldest and largest conservatoire of music and drama, with a rich history dating back to 1878. The institution is renowned for its holistic approach to music and drama education, delivering career-focused programmes that equip students with the skills required for success in the music and theatre industry.

The Department of Pop, Jazz, Trad, Voice & Theatre Studies is a vibrant and dynamic community of over 300 full-time undergraduate and Masters students, studying under five distinct programmes. These include:

  • BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre
  • BA (Hons) in Theatre & Drama Studies
  • BA (Hons) in Popular Music
  • Bachelor of Music (Hons)
  • MA in Performance

The department is also responsible for the Conservatoire provision of Classical Singing and Drama. As Head of Department, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management and control of the Department, and for its development in accordance with University policy and plans.

The appointee will report to the Head of School of the MTU Cork School of Music and will be located in the heart of Cork City centre, close to all major arts venues. The purpose-built and state-of-the-art building features a range of facilities, including a 385-seat concert hall, 110-seat theatre, and 52 teaching and practice studios.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced and accomplished academic leader, with a strong track record of innovation and excellence in music and drama education. They will be responsible for driving the Department's strategic direction, developing and implementing new programmes and initiatives, and leading a team of academics and professionals to deliver high-quality teaching and research.
