Job Description

Munster Technological University (MTU) is a multi-campus technological university, contributing to the region through the provision of academic programmes that support student development and opportunities, education and research. MTU has an extensive and impressive regional footprint with six campuses across the South-West region in Cork and Kerry, and a student body of 18,000. Munster Technological University wishes to appoint a Head of IT Security to lead and build a newly forming Cyber Security Team within the IT Department. Reporting to the Heads of IT, this post will work closely with the Head of IT Operations and Head of IT Applications. This post can be based in either the Cork or Kerry Campus but will involve some travel between both campuses Duties and responsibilities of the position: Strategy and Leadership Lead the design of an Information Security Management Framework for MTU based on principles such as CIS20/NIST or similar. Create a Cyber Security Roadmap with reference to the overall Universitys strategic plan, in particular focusing on how the University can approach the CIS20/NIST Security controls in a phased way. Direct an ongoing, proactive risk assessment program with prioritisation, for all new and existing systems with your team being involved in early stages of design/implementation to ensure adequate security principles and controls are being adhered to. Remain familiar with the Universitys goals and business processes so effective controls can be put in place for those areas presenting the greatest information security risk. Evaluate and prioritise Cyber Security Risk in relation to the implementation of new systems and processes. Security Awareness & Building Relationships Advisory service to the broader MTU community on IT security risks considerations.? Work with any vendors and 3rd parties identified to support the Cyber Security Roadmap. Develop information security awareness training?campaigns?and education programs, work with other entities to present them to faculty, staff, and students.? Cyber Security Operations Take operational ownership of MTUs Cyber Security Toolset. Act as Incident response manager and problem manager for Cyber Security incidents.? Identify gaps and opportunities for improved logging and threat identification/response. Ensure that the MTU Disaster Recovery Plan is up to?date.? Lead the development of specific security services for the MTU community (Intrusion prevention, Cloud Encryption,?etc.) and any other security related tasks. Essential Criteria:? A?relevant?degree in a related?discipline.? At least 10 years relevant work experience. ITIL Framework experience. Experiencing managing IT budgets, costs and return on spend. Strong experience of Cyber Security Frameworks such as CIS20/NIST. Strong Incident Management experience.
