Job Description

2 RN has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the company's Senior Management Team as Head of Network Integrity.2 RN distributes and transmits the programme services of the Irish Radio and Television services, including national TV services Saorview and Saorsat, as well as national, regional, and local FM radio services.

2 RN also provides site services/facilities to mobile telephone and broadband operators, private communications companies, and the emergency services.

The Opportunity Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head of Network Integrity has overall responsibility for the efficient management, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the company's headend, contribution, and distribution systems to ensure the highest standards of service delivery, reliability, and quality for the broadcast operations across various platforms and networks.


Key Responsibilities:
Manage the 2 RN distribution network (both fibre and microwave radio links) to its primary transmission sites.

Manage the distribution input from all Television and Radio broadcasters play-out centres into the 2 RN's multiplexing centres for Saorview DTT, Saorsat DTH, and FM radio platforms.

Configuration, operation, and management of all Dublin based headend compression systems (DTT, DTH & FM) and broadcast service infrastructure whilst ensuring high quality of service in a customer, viewer, and listener focused environment.

Overall management of the 2 RN's Dublin maintenance team with an emphasis on quality and continuous improvement in the level of service to the 2 RN broadcast customer base.

Day-to-day management of operational and maintenance activities and procedures for the DTT, DTH & FM headend systems in line with agreed contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLA), the distribution (input & output) systems and peripherals.

Day-to-day management of the Network Monitoring Centre; its activities and team – fostering a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and customer focus.

Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of engineering and technical support staff.
Responsibility for the monitoring, recording, and reporting of performance and availability of all systems.
Lead and co-ordinate projects related to system upgrades, expansions, and new installations.

Develop and manage the capital and operational budgets for Maintenance, DTT, DTH, and FM headend, and distribution activities at both of 2 RN's Dublin multiplexing centres.

Day-to-day management of work areas and activities including health and safety.
Other duties which may be assigned in line with the needs of the business.

Knowledge and Experience:

Ideally, applicants will hold a degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Broadcast Technology, or a directly related field, and have: An established and relevant track record in the Broadcast, Electronics, or associated industries – preferably 10+ years in broadcast engineering including 5 years in a management role.

Experience of managing a team in a high-quality customer-focused organisation.
In-depth knowledge of digital and analog broadcast technologies, signal processing, and transmission systems.
Relevant technical knowledge or experience in/with: Operation of broadcast MPEG headend encoding compression and multiplexing systems.
MPEG 4, 2, and 1 encoding.

All aspects of DVB signalling for video, audio, access service data, and Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) data components within the MPEG transport stream.

The generation and playout of Hbb TV and MHEG data carousels and the over-air broadcast signalling required for the same.

The design and testing of both DTT and DTH receivers for the market.
Be conversant with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of building relationships.
Customer and stakeholder focused.
Business and commercial acumen with ability to contribute to operational and strategic business decisions.
Excellent analytical, interpretative, and problem-solving skills.

This appointment will be made on an ongoing, full-time contract basis on the Department Manager Grade 1 salary range of €81,467 to €112,141.
