Job Description Job Title: Head of Regulatory and Trade Affairs Reports to: Director of Corporate Affairs Location: Dublin Company Background Ornua is an Irish dairy co-operative that markets and sells dairy products on behalf of its Members, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. Ornua is Ireland’s largest exporter of Irish dairy products and has annualised sales of €3.4 billion. Headquartered in Dublin, Ornua has a strong global team of 2,900 employees, operating from 10 business units worldwide, including 13 production facilities. Ornua’s core purpose is to build profitable routes to market for Irish dairy products. The Group is structured across two divisions: Ornua Foods and Ornua Ingredients. Ornua Foods is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands, including Ireland’s most successful food export, Kerrygold, as well as Kerrygold Dubliner, Pilgrims Choice, Avantage, Forto and BEO milk powders. Why this role is valuable Ornua is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to join our team as the Head of Regulatory and Trade Affairs. This role is a pivotal position for Ornua. The successful candidate will oversee Ornua’s Regulatory and Trade Compliance team, who are responsible for monitoring, recording and advising on key dairy trade regulatory, and related issues, across Ornua’s businesses, primarily in Ornua’s core and strategic markets. The role also offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with and support Ornua’s Regulatory Affairs Business Partner in North America. Key focus areas for the Head of Regulatory and Trade Affairs are: dairy exportingcustoms complianceSanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) issuestrade agreementsplacing product on the marketfood lawlabellingpackagingESG/sustainability programs and schemesKey Areas of Responsibility:Oversees, advises and supports the Regulatory and Trade Compliance team on all regulatory aspects of the export of dairy and agri-food products – item and tariff classification, customs and SPS compliance.Placing product on the market – regulatory compliance (food safety, permitted additives/ingredients, product standards and packaging etc).Labelling and marketing claims and dairy terms/designations.Food contact material/packaging legislation monitoring and compliance.Responsible for horizon scanning and dairy related regulatory monitoring, reporting, interpretation and dissemination.Implements and operates a best-in-class regulatory issues management system.Manages the Regulatory and Trade Compliance Team’s contribution to Ornua’s Information Portal (Ornua Connect) and trade reports.Engages with national and EU authorities, regulatory bodies and third-party business advisory services on regulatory compliance issues.Manages regulatory and compliance risk and advises on regulatory compliance in related areas.Participates/engages with Trade Associations and Industry bodies, nationally and internationally, in consultation and coordination with the Director of Corporate Affairs.Provides guidance and support where required to group business functions such as environmental and operational health and safety, technical and R&D/innovation teams, supply chain, ESG/sustainability, innovation and risk management.Plays a key function in Ornua’s business continuity and crisis management programmes and in national and global standard audits.Key Requirements & Competencies:Third level regulatory or related qualification or experience.Business acumen and experience of working in or understanding of food/dairy industry.People management experience.Experience of implementing issues management systems.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Good people, time management and organisational skills.Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
