Our company, a family-owned and managed waste management provider, is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic and Fitter to support the smooth and safe running of our fleet. A short summary of the job: We are looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic and Fitter to join our team and contribute to the maintenance and repair of our fleet. Our company has a strong presence in Galway, providing waste collection services across various sectors. We have invested heavily in upgrading our fleet, with 80% of our vehicles now running on Euro six engines with automatic gearboxes, resulting in fuel savings of up to 10% per annum. Our dedicated maintenance team is responsible for the repair and maintenance of HGVs, plant, and equipment to ensure the efficient operation of our business. **Key Responsibilities:** • Maintain company HGVs, trailers, plant, and waste equipment to maximize fleet efficiency • Plan and coordinate maintenance and CVRT testing of all equipment in line with the maintenance schedule • Work on different vehicles at any given time, adhering to workshop systems and guidelines • Assist with planning of vehicle maintenance, ordering of parts, and coordination of works with other garage staff • Meet weekly with the operations manager or supervisor to review workload and resource planning • Identify procurement items that need to be sourced and deliver ongoing status reports as required • Manage the workshop area in a safe and cost-effective manner **Requirements:** • 5+ years of experience in the waste and recycling or transport and logistics industry • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Experience of MIG welding is desirable • Ability to use vehicle diagnostic systems • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • General computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Google Sheets, and related business applications • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to meet deadlines without compromising quality **Benefits:** • Opportunities for career advancement • Employee Referral Bonus Scheme • Social events, including Christmas and Summer BBQ • Discounted rates on skip hire • Increase in annual bonus and leave based on length of service **Our Sustainability Strategy:** We have ambitious sustainability targets for 2030, including a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions, a 20% increase in collection route efficiency, and the replacement of all cars and vans with electric vehicles.
