Household Staff Full time. 39.00hrs - 1.0 WTE, HSE Funded Post Job Description and Person Specification Job title: Household Staff ( Catering Assistant) Reports to: Catering Line Manager Description of the hospital The Royal Hospital Donnybrook is a 178 bedded hospital that provides Post-Acute, Stroke Rehabilitation, Neurorehabilitation and General Rehabilitation services, Day Hospital services, Respite and Residential Care services to adults. Purpose of the post The Post Holder will work throughout the campus of the Royal Hospital Donnybrook. The purpose of the post is to assist with the preparation and service of meals and beverages in the hospital at the required time in accordance with the hospital, food safety, hygiene and statutory standards. To ensure that the areas related to the catering department (Ward pantry, dining rooms etc.) are kept thoroughly clean at all times. Household staff are required to work throughout the hospital and on various wards as per the service need. Qualifications and experience Have some experience working in a catering environment in the healthcare or hospitality sector. May suit students. Core Duties &Responsibilities Ensure the cleanliness of the ward kitchen and catering equipment and dining room if applicable. Set up trays for each meal in accordance with appropriate procedures and wash up afterwards. Prepare breakfast at ward level each morning. Make toast as required. Plate all meals under the supervision of nursing personnel. Be aware of special diets. Ensure the correct temperature is maintained. Distribute and collect menus cards and explain to patients and to co- operate with the introductions to new technology in this area to coagulate all information contained on cards and send summary to main kitchen. Keep food stock levels at a minimum and order in accordance with the amount recommended by the Catering Officer. Assist with the receipt and recording of stock supplied. Report any food waste or misuse to Catering Officer To report all structural and mechanical defects and needs for repairs. Keep all dry foods locked away and only leave out what is needed for patients' teas after duty. Ensuring the maximum security of your area of assignment and of all equipment and supplies contained there in Distribute carafes of water and glasses to patients morning and evenings and when necessary. Take part in all mandatory training programmes e.g. Hygiene courses, Health and safety courses, MAPA, Food safety, food service and presentations etc. Keep a record of any complaints or compliments received from patients and pass on. To comply and practice all hygiene health and safety legislation and procedures. To adhere to specifications standards and procedures while at work. To adhere to the guidelines in the HSE Food, Nutrition and Hydration policy 2019 Carry out other such duties as may be assigned from time to time by the hospital management following consultation and agreement Skills & Competencies Technical & Professional Expertise Has a command over the technical/ professional skills and knowledge required within the job holders role and continues to upskill to maintain high professional standards and continuous professional development requirements. Conditions of Service Hours of Work Working Hours each week over 7 days, worked as agreed with the Catering Manager The flexibility of working patterns is required in line with service requirements or developments. Remuneration The salary for the post is in line with the Department of Health Consolidated Scales 4110 - Domestics Medical A candidate for and any person holding the office must be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold the office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to attend regular and efficient service.
