Job Description The Role:We're on the lookout for a dedicated In-house Solicitor to join our existing team of seven solicitors and two legal executives on a full time permanent basis. This is a dynamic role that will grow and change as Elgin does. We’re in a growth period and it’s a genuinely exciting time to join. You'll get to support every part of our operations, with a special focus on advising our project delivery and services teams. You'll report to our Senior Legal Counsel in Dublin. The role offers flexibility to work from our Dublin or Central London office with typically 4 days in the office and 1 day from home. What you will do: Provide dedicated legal support on power generation projects, including solar PV, battery storage, and voltage optimisation. Support the construction, grid, asset management, and trading teams in drafting, negotiating, and advising on a range of complex commercial issues, project development, construction, operations, and/or offtake contracts across all jurisdictions. Offer commercially focused legal advice and develop and maintain a strong and current understanding of the renewable energy industry. Advise on general business law issues across all areas of the company, including but not limited to corporate matters, procurement, pre-construction consents, regulatory, safety, security, insurance, and sustainability issues. Liaise with internal teams to review due diligence reports. Support development funding, project finance, and other funding arrangements. Assist in corporate matters, including joint ventures, asset sales, and acquisitions. Review and advise on commercial contracts, such as NDAs, letters of engagement, and agreements with third-party suppliers. Provide ad hoc advice on a range of issues. Manage and instruct external counsel. Your profile What you will need: Qualified solicitor with ideally 6–8 years of strong post-qualification experience obtained in a top-tier Irish, UK, or international firm, or in-house. Experience in energy, construction/projects, financing, corporate, or other related energy work is desirable. Experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial and/or corporate contracts. Detail-oriented and meticulous, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organisational abilities. A high level of motivation and a friendly manner to enable effective and positive engagement with colleagues, external legal counsel, and key stakeholders. The ability to work proactively and as part of a team, with strong task prioritisation skills. A flexible approach to work. The ability to maintain a clear head and efficient manner during periods of increased pressure, accustomed to a fast-paced working environment, and able to act with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines on multiple and complex legal projects. Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to embrace the cultural values of integrity, excellence, and agility. About us Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage platform bringing projects from origination through to energisation. Elgin is active across the project lifecycle from project origination through to construction management and operational asset management. The company has over 12GW of solar and storage projects across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland. As of 2022, Elgin Energy agreed to sell the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.
