Job Description

The Infection Prevention Control Liaison Nurse will provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are at the center of all that is done. The post holder works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships aimed at delivering a high standard of care. They will coordinate the hospital-wide infection prevention control program to ensure effective measures are developed, implemented, and maintained to identify, prevent, and control infections acquired in the hospital or brought into the hospital from the community.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Provides consulting services for all hospital departments regarding infection prevention control issues.
  • Monitors, investigates, and controls healthcare-associated infections (HCAI).
  • Investigates and discusses untoward infection prevention control incidents/accidents involving patients, staff, and/or equipment.
  • Collates outbreak reports and presents to relevant committees.
  • Advises on isolation procedures and supports bed managers/nurse supervisors on decision making.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the hospital infection prevention control program.
  • Maintains accurate written records regarding patient care.
  • Creates a supportive environment within the Infection Prevention Control Department.


**Communication & Administrative:**
  • Communicates with all hospital departments to identify and resolve potential and existing infection prevention control concerns.
  • Prepares quarterly reports for the infection prevention control committee.
  • Maintains and updates organisation-wide evidence-based policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines (PPPGs) regarding infection prevention control.
  • Coordinates the updating of department-specific policies and procedures.


**Education & Training:**
  • Maintains knowledge of current medical and scientific procedures and literature related to infection prevention control.
  • Presents information on infection prevention, control, and employee health issues in the hospital.
  • Develops and presents educational programs to increase awareness of infection risks.


**Leadership:**
  • Acts as an Infection Prevention Control role model and leader within the organisation.
  • Represents the Infection Prevention Control team at local, national, and international meetings.
  • Implements research findings to enhance infection control practice and ensure safe patient care.


Requirements:
  • An Bord Altranais Registered General Nurse licence in good standing.
  • 5 years post-registration experience.
  • 2 years clinical experience in infection prevention control preferred.
  • Ability to use own initiative, work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and manage workload.
