Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Job Description

In this role, you will support the planning and implementation of environmental health and safety programs by developing and maintaining a comprehensive occupational safety program for the facility.

  • Guide and promote employee health and safety performance by assisting in developing health and safety systems, programs, and procedures to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and enhance the overall site safety culture.
  • Participate on incident investigations to guide finding root causes and identifying aligned long-term corrective actions.
  • Perform facility audits, surveys, and inspections to identify environmental, safety, and occupational hazards and weaknesses, to promote effective practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations.
  • Participate in and/or plan and execute HSE, Sustainability, and Corporate Responsibility related projects.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees and managers at all levels of the organization.
  • Manufacturing or similar experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to train.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated initiative and innovation.
  • Knowledge of computer and software skills an asset.

Travel Requirements and Physical Demands

  • 5% travel, up to 13 business days per year.
  • Exerting up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force frequently constantly to move objects.
