LEAD LITERACY SPECIALIST (12 MONTHS)Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:The Literacy Specialist, who will fill a full-time position, will provide training and technical assistance related to understanding and acquisition of literacy skills for students with disabilities within multi-tiered systems of support to any interested party, such as families, school/district staff, and community groups.Responsibilities include Principal Responsibilities:- Collaborate with the Technical Assistance Partnerships (TAP) for Academics by attending planning meetings, trainings, webinars, and professional development opportunities.- Provide a variety of regional learning opportunities and supports to stakeholders (e.g., families, school/district staff, community groups, etc.) on issues related to the acquisition of literacy skills within multi-tiered systems of support.- Conduct targeted skills groups and professional development opportunities for stakeholders on specific topics such as literacy development, reading challenges and disabilities, and effective evidence-based interventions.- Carry out reading assessments and serve as a resource for technical assistance to stakeholders including students, families, and staff of early childhood programs/approved preschools, public school districts, approved private day and residential schools, Special Act schools, State-supported, and State-operated schools.- Collaborate with FACE Centers on issues relating to literacy to provide capacity building focused on family and community engagement.- Maintain thorough and accurate records, files and correspondence to document services provided.- Submit training data to the TAP for Data to evaluate the effectiveness of trainings.- Utilize the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Integrated (MTSS-I) Center to build capacity through virtual training and coaching to support MTSS-I Implementation with identified Educational Organizations (EOs).- Learn through direct observation of professional development and on-site coaching sessions conducted by the MTSS-I center coaches in identified EOs.- Attend up to five days of professional development provided by the MTSS-I Center to be delivered virtually.- Assist in the provision of professional development and on-site coaching sessions (up to ten days).Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:- Extensive knowledge of reading disabilities, assessments, and evidence-based interventions.- Experience providing professional development and/or technical assistance.- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and computer literacy.- Strong presentation skills.- Strong interpersonal skills that support interacting with families, school/agency personnel as well as NYS Department of Education personnel.Education Requirements:Minimum of a Master’s degree.Working Conditions:Typical office setting with privacy, required regular travel to various locations throughout Long Island and occasional travel to Albany area, and occasionally work hours will be required during nights and weekends.Materials & Equipment:Educational materials provided by TAP for Academics, computer, copier, scanner, wireless access, phone and fax.LIU is an equal opportunity employer.
