We are recruiting for a new position of Lead Trading Underwriter (Construction) for our AXA Ireland business. Reporting to Mick Brennan, Head of Commercial Trading, this key role involves supporting the implementation of underwriting standards at AXA Ireland, aligning with our stated risk appetite. As the trading lead for the Construction Sector Business in ROI/NI (Property/Casualty/CAR), you will play a vital role in driving and maintaining underwriting excellence in this strategic area. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, and either our Dublin or Athlone office locations. What you'll be doing: Monitoring and managing key performance indicators for AXA Construction Sector Underwriting business in the broker channel. Supporting underwriting results delivery through account management, financial planning, and analysis of underwriting trends. Lead profitability, underwriting governance, and control of Construction Commercial business traded through brokers. Identify and convert mid to large-scale rollover deals to meet volume and revenue targets. Monitor underwriting standards and support change programs, new opportunities, and renewal strategies. Provide guidance to trading teams, handle large new business submissions, and prioritize customer service. Identify opportunities for new products and processes to improve underwriting rules and customer experience. Analyze portfolios, develop action plans, and collaborate with other lead trading team members. Act as business lead or underwriting representative on cross-functional projects and produce regular reports with findings and recommendations. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a general insurer/intermediary to include experience in a risk acceptance and rating environment, with a minimum CIP qualification required. A relevant degree, MDI/ACII would be beneficial. Demonstrated expertise in specific business classes. In-depth understanding of underwriting, rating, and acceptance criteria for Construction Property/Casualty/CAR business. Proficiency in key business KPIs and report writing. Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and market factors. Ability to work independently, strong planning and teamwork skills. Effective relationship management and interpersonal communication. Capable of making and communicating quality risk assessment decisions. Maintains focus on professional standards and business goals. Demonstrates business acumen and negotiation skills. Awareness of compliance to Health & Safety, IT Security, and legislation in Underwriting. As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorized to work in Ireland and/or the United Kingdom.
