Job Title: Lecturer (Pharmacy Practice) Reporting To: Head of the School of Pharmacy or nominee Location: Ardilaun House, Dublin 2 Department: School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences Contract type/duration: Temporary full-time - 5 year fixed term contract Closing date for applications: Sept 22nd 2024 Objective of this post: The objectives of this post are: To contribute to the design and delivery of the School's educational programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels Provide a wide range of skills including, but not limited to, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice in the context of a healthcare professional, ensuring patient focus and clinical context for the teaching and assessment strategy of our programmes. Develop an independent and productive research profile aligned with established priority areas of research within the School. To further develop the School's relationship with our academic and clinical collaborators. Specific Responsibilities include: Teaching: Preparation, delivery and assessment of clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice related material ensuring at all times that teaching material is in line with international best practice, on our undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, as required Utilising a student-centred approach to all duties so as to ensure optimal educational outcomes Leading or advising on modules within various programmes including coordinating integrated teaching activities across a range of disciplines Participating in cross-functional teams to design and deliver academic programmes Contributing to the quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of all programmes delivered in the School Participating in the delivery of our teaching and learning strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning Maintaining and developing School's relationship with clinical and industrial teaching sites Research: Engage in research and knowledge transfer activities aligned to pharmacy practice, either independently or in collaboration with other members of the School's academic staff or clinical partners Actively seeking funding to support research activity either independently or as part of a team, and generate research outputs consistent with expectations at this level Contributing to and supporting ongoing academic and clinical-based research collaborations within the School, nationally and internationally Overseeing research projects across our undergraduate and postgraduate student cohort and the supervision of undergraduate projects across the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in the RCSI-Research Summer School Contributing to School thesis review committees as required Service: Complying with statutory legislation and departmental rules and requirements in furtherance of your own, staff and student welfare and safety Competent discharge of academic administrative duties and engagement across the School and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in aspects such as attendance at examination boards, team meetings, interviewing prospective students, attendance at open days, outreach events etc. Promoting the best interests of RCSI at all times, enhancing the School's reputation in both pharmacy practice research and education Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time Supporting students through student affairs initiatives, such as personal tutoring, and other initiatives, as appropriate Fostering and supporting links with national and international academic partners Person Specification: The successful candidate: Is eligible to be registered as a pharmacist in Ireland Has a PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, Has a track record in research, as evidenced by e.g. personal fellowship/funding award/s and first author publications Ideally has previous experience of education in an academic environment, Has excellent communication skills, Can function effectively within a team Requires minimum direction to effectively deliver on assigned functions, and demonstrates a positive, student -centred and solution focused approach to addressing challenges and ambiguity, Has flexibility to work irregular hours on occasion, Has flexibility for international travel on occasion if required.
