Legal Counsel for Global Investment Management Organisation

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal counsel to join our in-house legal team at Fisher Investments Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity for a pragmatic lawyer who enjoys partnering with business teams in various jurisdictions, learning new legal areas and requirements, and developing creative solutions to day-to-day legal issues and global expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to business units on issues that arise on a day-to-day basis.
  • Research legal requirements, laws and regulation in various jurisdictions to support providing legal analysis, advice and recommendations to the business.
  • Participate in ad-hoc regulatory and business projects, which may include implementation of new legislation or regulatory requirements, launching new regulated entities, etc.
  • Draft various documents related to legal support of the business globally, which may include commercial contracts, employment agreements, investment management agreements, fund documentation, policies, business guidelines, etc.
  • Review and approve materials or information, including helping the business units understand requirements in creation of such materials.
  • Work in collaboration with the group-wide legal team and business units.
  • Liaise with outside counsel in various jurisdictions.

Requirements:

  • A solicitor with 5+ years of post-qualification experience; top tier law firm experience or time spent working in-house an advantage.
  • Highly intelligent, with intellectual curiosity and a high aptitude and desire for learning and building expertise in new legal and regulatory areas, from areas specific to investment management to broader areas such as employment laws.
  • Ability to conduct a thorough legal analysis of complex topics and translate this analysis into practical and succinct legal advice.
  • Ability to apply common sense and develop practical and creative legal solutions to the specific needs of the business.
  • Ability to effectively deal with complexity, ambiguity and nuances.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and gain trust and confidence with personnel at all levels across the organisation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to tailor writing style and conciseness to different audiences.
  • A team player and relationship builder who enjoys supporting colleagues, offers to both pitch in with work and share work, and has the ability to build rapport and establish trust.
  • Strong decision-making ability, with skill in effectively balancing business interests against legal and regulatory risks.
  • Ability to effectively balance a high level of attention to detail and commitment to high standards with bigger picture, strategic objectives and timeliness.
  • Highly self-motivated, a self-starter and proactive; willing to roll up one's sleeves to get things done.
  • Independent worker, with the organisational and task management skills necessary to prioritise multiple, often competing, work demands by understanding competing priorities and making appropriate judgments about relative importance while managing expectations.
  • Skills with MS-applications (primarily Outlook, Word, Power Point).
  • Familiarity with investment management, employment and privacy laws in various jurisdictions a plus.
  • Foreign language skills a plus.
