Job Description

Purpose of Position To assist in the provision and promotion of an effective frontline library service, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment within the Norma Smurfit Library Role: 12 Month Contract/Fulltime time Library Assistant will include evening and occasional Saturday Work Reporting to: Deputy Librarian Key Responsibilities: To assist in ensuring the delivery of excellent customer services within the library. To use the Library Management System to facilitate and improve access to information, and to assist the public by issuing and returning items, dealing with all enquiries relating to circulation etc. To assist library users by answering enquiries; providing information and directing users to appropriate resources and services. To perform a wide range of administrative tasks such as cataloguing, shelving, stock processing, photocopying, scanning etc. To provide Library support via online reference platform (LibChat) and room booking(s). Role May include working from home Any other tasks as assigned by the Deputy Librarian or Librarian Key Attributes: Previous experience within a library environment desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Good customer service experience and skills Good keyboard skills with working knowledge of windows environment Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a small team. Self-starter & ability to work alone An interest in electronic media is essential. Working knowledge of the internet and online databases would be advantageous. Positive approach to continued training.
